Biological control of aphids can be achieved using a variety of natural enemies, each with its own specialty. Some biological controls target specific aphid species, while others have a broader range. By combining different natural enemies, you create a more efficient approach to managing aphids. The following natural enemies are commonly used to control aphids:
• Parasitic Wasps: Aphidius colemani (APHIcontrol) and Aphidius ervi (ERVIcontrol) are the most frequently used parasitic wasps for aphid control.
• Gall Midge: Aphidoletes aphidimyza (APHIDOcontrol) is a gall midge that is highly effective in managing aphid populations.
• Lacewings: Chrysoperla carnea (CHRYSOcontrol) is ideal for high aphid pressure situations. The larvae are extremely voracious and can control a wide variety of aphid species.
• Hoverflies: Sphaerophoria rueppellii has green larvae that can consume up to 200 aphids per cycle. This predator works well at slightly lower temperatures.
• Predatory Beetles: Cryptolaemus montrouzieri is one of the best-known aphid predators and is highly effective in aphid control.
