Chrysoline (Chry. sp.) PFP020505-019 10,000 larvae/bag

SKU #: 2600096

Chrysoline, containing the larvae of Green Lacewings (Chrysoperla sp.), is an effective biological control agent for aphids and mealy bugs.

Natural green lacewing solution for aphid and mealy bug management

Chrysoline is a biological control agent containing second instar larvae of Chrysoperla species, also known as Green Lacewings. These larvae are active predators of soft-bodied pests such as insects, mites, and aphids. Adults, in contrast, feed only on nectar and pollen and do not prey on pests, making them harmless once mature.

Benefits of Chrysoline :

  • Broad-spectrum targeting: Suitable for various aphid species on different crops, supporting flexible use even without precise species identification.
  • High feeding capacity: A single larva can consume over 200 aphids during development under typical conditions.
  • Simple monitoring: Larvae are visible on plants, making observation and management straightforward.
  • Lifecycle detail: Adult females lay single eggs on long stalks on leaf undersides; larvae move down the stalk upon hatching and begin searching for prey immediately.
  • Hotspot suitability: Best used for localised infestations, as larvae require live prey to complete their development and are not suited for preventive use.

How it works

Chrysoline larvae remain on aphid colonies and act as a curative treatment for localised infestations. They use their mandibles to pierce prey and inject enzymes that gradually digest internal tissues. Once digestion is complete, the liquid contents are consumed. Adults disperse naturally after emergence, so repeated releases may be needed to maintain effective population levels. Tests show that a single larva can consume the following aphid species in 14 days at 21 °C:

> More than 200 Macrosiphum euphorbiae
> 385 Myzus persicae
> 425 Aphis gossypii
