APHIcontrol biological control agent
APHIcontrol contains mummies of the parasitic wasp Aphidius colemani. The adult parasitic wasps emerge from these mummies and parasitize aphids by laying eggs inside them. Aphidius colemani has strong searching capabilities and relies on aphids to complete its life cycle.
Benefits of APHIcontrol :
- ✅Effective Aphid Control: Helps control aphid populations by parasitizing aphids.
- ✅Proactive Searching: Actively seeks aphids in crops, even before they become visible.
- ✅Preventive Use: Can be used preventively to manage aphid infestations in crops.
- ✅High Reproductive Potential: Capable of laying 80–100 eggs per day to support aphid control.
Main Uses
APHIcontrol is used for managing aphid populations, particularly:
- - Aphis gossypii (cotton aphid)
- - Myzus persicae (peach aphid)
- - Myzus nocotianae (tobacco aphid)
How it works
The parasitic wasp Aphidius colemani lays eggs inside aphids. The larvae consume the aphids from the inside, effectively reducing their numbers. Aphidius colemani is known for its ability to find aphid colonies early, making it a useful option for managing aphid populations in a preventive manner. Parasitized aphids turn into mummies, which may remain in the crop and become visible after about 10 days. This process can be monitored to assess the effectiveness of the control measures.
