Aphiline biological control agent uses the Braconid wasp Aphidius colemani to target and parasitize smaller aphid species like melon and peach aphids.

Preventive control with Aphidius colemani

Aphiline is a biological control agent containing the parasitic wasp Aphidius colemani. This Braconid wasp targets and parasitizes smaller aphid species, such as the melon or cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii), peach aphid (Myzus persicae) and tobacco aphid (Myzus nicotianae). It is ideal for the preventive and curative control of aphids in all greenhouse crops.

Benefits of Aphiline :

  • Effective population control: Prevents aphid populations from developing and reduces existing infestations to non-damaging levels.
  • Immediate release: Adults begin to emerge in transit and are ready for action upon arrival.
  • No diapause: Not light sensitive effective even under short-day conditions.
  • Enhanced survival: Ventilation and food source in packaging support adult wasps during transit and storage.
  • Versatile use: Suitable for all greenhouse crops.

Main uses

Aphids

How it works

The female Aphidius colemani lays an egg inside the aphid. Within 2–3 days, the egg hatches and the wasp larva feeds on the aphid from within, eventually leaving behind a characteristic parasitized "mummy" on the plant. The full life cycle takes about 10 days at 25°C (77°F) or 14 days at 21°C (70°F).

For best results, release Aphiline preventively on a weekly basis during periods of high aphid risk, typically in spring or early summer. In case of existing infestations, curative application near aphid colonies is recommended. If no prior releases have been made, aphid populations can quickly build up, and supplemental control measures may be necessary. Continue with preventive use of Aphiline to avoid recurring aphid problems.
