Amblyline biological control agent features the predatory mite Amblyseius cucumeris, which effectively targets various thrips species, including Western Flower and Chili Thrips.

Biological thrips control with Amblyseius cucumeris

Amblyline contains the predatory mite Amblyseius cucumeris, a natural enemy of Western Flower Thrips, Chili Thrips, and several other thrips species. These mites disperse quickly throughout the crop and provide long-term protection against pest pressure.

Benefits of Ambly Stick

  • Broad spectrum control: Targets multiple thrips species and harmful mites.
  • Effective against thrips larvae: Proven performance against L1-stage larvae.
  • Fast distribution: Mites spread efficiently throughout the crop.
  • Long-lasting action: Also feeds on pollen, enabling persistence even at low pest levels.

Target pests

Amblyline is used to control various thrips species, including Western Flower Thrips and Chili Thrips. It is also effective against Broad mites and Cyclamen mites.

How Amblyline works

The formulation is designed to release a consistent number of active Amblyseius cucumeris mites onto the crop each day. At 24°C (75°F), the mites develop within 6–9 days a cycle that aligns well with the lifecycle of Western Flower Thrips. The beneficial mites feed on the first larval stage (L1) but do not attack larger larvae or adult thrips.

Optimal conditions

Amblyline performs best at temperatures between 66–80°F (19–27°C) and relative humidity levels of 65–75%. The mites are not susceptible to diapause, meaning they remain active even during cooler seasons.

Sustainable use

Since Amblyseius cucumeris can also feed on pollen, the population can survive even in the absence of prey.
