“At Truly Green Farms, we work to maintain a very healthy environment for the plants. In the clean out period, it’s critical that we have machines that are reliable. Whether it is the BioChopper that helps remove all the plant material or the AquaJet for cleaning the greenhouse, it is very important that we can rely on the equipment. We have been using these machines for a while now and we definitely see the value in them,” says Greg Devries of Truly Green Farms, Chatham, Ontario, Canada.
“Truly Green Farms was born with plans to construct a 90-acre state of the art greenhouse operation devoted to grow tomatoes. We searched out something that would be unique and innovative. Land was secured across the road from GreenField Global. We use their waste heat and CO2 which makes Truly Green Farms a very innovative and environmentally sustainable operation. In 2012 we built the first phase of 22 and a half acres and in 2021 we build our final phase for making this project now complete.”

Save time and money
Crop rotation is often a hectic period in which many different operations are carried out. A number of crop rotation activities, such as removing the crop, shredding the crop, removing foil, cleaning the greenhouse and disinfecting the greenhouse can be done with machines. These machines make the work a lot less labour-intensive, improves efficiency, saves time and in the end money. Royal Brinkman provides a complete package for the grower with the right products, knowledge and advice during crop rotation from ripening of the plant to planting a new crop.

Starting Clean
Arie Alblas, specialist Royal Brinkman, explains that cleaning the greenhouse is of great importance for a hygienic start for the new cultivation. This is the only way to protect the greenhouse from diseases, bacteria and pests from the old crop to the new crop.
“After the old crop has been cleared, you can choose to clean and disinfect the pull out tarps with a tarp cleaner. Soil and suborn dirt are removed from the cover by means of brushes, scrapers and sprayers. This is how diseases, bacteria and viruses are killed.
Disinfecting the tarp is especially important if you put the clean out tarp in the greenhouse at the beginning of the cultivation or if you use it for several growing seasons.”

After the old crop has been cleared, you can choose to clean and disinfect the pull out tarps with a tarp cleaner.
Tarp cleaner
Joe Barkhouse explains that they are very pleased with the tarp cleaners. "Thanks to the tarp cleaners, we know the ground cover is disinfected and ready for the next season. It won't bring back any diseases that we may have had in the previous season, even though we are reusing the ground cover. In the fourth phase of building Truly Green, we decided to purchase an additional Tarp Cleaner. Thanks to the additional Tarp Cleaner, we now have two men on two machines and we can work much more efficiently and quickly. We now have more capacity to clean the ground covers through the tarp cleaner."
Clean Glass
Well cleaned, clean glass allows more light into the greenhouse. Arie Alblas explains: “The guideline is 1% more light gives 1% more production. Therefore you should clean the glass of the greenhouse regularly - from the inside as well as from the outside. The best time to do this is when changing crops, because then you don’t have to take the crop into account. easiest way to do this is when changing crops, because then you don't have to take the crop into account.
The inside of your greenhouse can also be covered by debris, like dust, algae and other types of pollution. With a glass cleaner you can remove this dirt. This can be done manually, but also with an AquaJet. An AquaJet Cleaner rides over the pipe rail system and contains a spray mast to distribute the detergent.

AquaJet
Joe Barkhouse indicates that the priority within Truly Green Farms was to improve the efficiency of cleaning and disinfecting. "Cleaning and disinfecting is essential given the viruses we encounter in the industry. It's a challenge to clean as quickly and efficiently as possible. We needed something with a long reach. In short, a machine that was large enough and could quickly and reliably meet the deadlines we had in the cleaning process. We ended up with the AquaJet and are very satisfied with it. We can clean quickly, efficiently and thoroughly. We currently have five AquaJets running at our facility."

When it comes to disinfection, it starts at our front door with the bio security room and the machines there from Royal Brinkman. It is necessary to add something like a boot scrubber in your biosecurity room so we can keep bacteria and viruses out of the greenhouse. We are very satisfied with Royal Brinkman's products and saw that it was efficient to purchase more products from Royal Brinkman for our operation so that we can clean and disinfect as efficiently as possible during the crop rotation. We now have two tarp cleaners and five AquaJets from Royal Brinkman."
