Nematodes and Hypoaspis
A 1-2 PUNCH for controlling Sciarid Flies
Steinernema feltiae nematodes - Juvenile nematodes applied to the soil surface seek out and penetrate the body cavity of insect hosts (the pest insect). The nematodes release bacteria from their gut into the insect pests’ blood where the bacteria multiply and cause septicemia. The insect pest dies within 48 hours after infection. Nematodes mature into adults, reproduce and then emerge as infective juveniles from the host cadaver to seek new pests in the soil.
Hypoaspis miles - predatory mites that move through substrate controlling flies by eating their eggs, larvae and pupae. One predator mite can eat up to 8 small larvae of sciarid fly, or from 0.2 to 0.6 developed larvae per day.

Although disinfecting the facility prevents unwanted diseases and pests, it's important to take into account possible diseases that might enter on people, machines, and tools. Adding an additional line of defence of Hygiene measures, that focus on reducing diseases brought in through these means, is essential to reducing risk.
