SWIRScontrol contains the cream-colored predatory mite Amblyseius swirskii, which targets the non-mobile stages of whiteflies, thrips larvae, and spider mites. Apart from thrips and whiteflies, this mite can also thrive on pollen and various plant sources such as vegetable saps, making it well-suited for greenhouse environments. Originating from the Mediterranean region, Swirski functions effectively in hot and humid climates.
A. swirskii's appearance is hardly distinguishable from that of A. cucumeris or A. californicus without magnification. Unlike some other species, this predatory mite does not undergo diapause, but it tends to be less active during winter in most regular crops. Optimal growth occurs at temperatures between 25°C and 28°C, with activity maintained up to 40°C. Under such conditions, its complete life cycle lasts around five to six days, with females laying approximately 2 eggs per day. Reproduction significantly decreases below 15°C. Temperature and light play important roles in the predatory mite's development, with A. swirskii proving particularly effective from March to September. SWIRScontrol should be deployed at the onset of pest development, and it can be applied across various crops infested with thrips and whiteflies. A. swirskii is typically found at the top of plants, where pests are most abundant.
