Biological aphid management solution
MATRIcontrol contains mummies of the parasitic wasp Aphidius matricariae. This small, black parasitic wasp is used to help manage green peach aphids (Myzus persicae) and related species like tobacco peach aphid and peach potato aphid. It can also reduce populations of aphids such as the butterfly aphid (Aulacorthum solani). Adults typically measure 2–3 mm, with brown legs, long antennae, and distinct wing veins. With a lifespan of 2–3 weeks, females lay eggs inside aphids quickly, supporting effective integration into pest management programs.
Benefits of MATRIcontrol :
- ✅ Active searching: Designed to locate aphid colonies efficiently for better coverage in crops.
- ✅ Focused targeting: Especially effective for green peach aphid and related species management.
- ✅ Custom options: Available in cultivation-specific mixes to match grower needs.
- ✅ Resilience feature: Reduced sensitivity to hyperparasitism for more reliable use.
Main uses
Management of green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) and related species such as tobacco peach aphid, peach potato aphid, and butterfly aphid in greenhouse crops.
How it works
Adult Aphidius matricariae wasps emerge from mummies and search for aphids in the crop. The female quickly injects an egg into the aphid, where the larva develops internally and leads to mummification. Each female can lay around 100 eggs and may parasitize up to 300 aphids, with most eggs laid in the first few days of its 2–3 week lifespan. This lifecycle supports integration into broader pest management programs.
