Preventive control with Aphelinus abdominalis
Apheline is a biological control agent based on the parasitic wasp Aphelinus abdominalis. It is ideal for preventive aphid control in integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
Benefits of Apheline :
- ✅High reproduction rate: Up to 250 offspring per female within 3 weeks.
- ✅Strong efficacy: Parasitizes 2nd and 3rd instar aphids.
- ✅Host feeding: Feeds on 1st and 2nd instar larvae, enhancing control.
- ✅Control: Excellent control of Macrosiphum euphorbiae.
- ✅Long-lived species: Remains on the crop for extended protection.
- ✅Ventilated packaging: Sugar-water feeder ring and ventilated cap ensure adult survival during transit and storage.
Main uses
Aphids, including Macrosiphum euphorbiae and Aulacorthum solani.
How it works
The female Aphelinus abdominalis lays an egg within the aphid. The egg hatches after 2–3 days, and the wasp larva feeds on the aphid from the inside, leaving behind a parasitized mummy on the plant. For preventive control, weekly releases are recommended during the period when aphids are most likely to occur in the crop, typically in spring or early summer.
Combinability
Apheline is often used in combination with other parasitoids such as Aphiline or Erviline. It is also available as part of pre-mixed solutions like Aphiline Veg, Aphiline Strawberry, Aphiline Berry, and Aphiline Flower.
This species is not only effective but also contributes to long-term suppression thanks to its extended presence on the crop. It enhances overall control by parasitizing aphids and feeding on young instars, making it a reliable addition to any preventive IPM program.
