Versatile thrips control with the predatory bug Orius
Oriline products contain the predatory bug Orius, known for its long-standing effectiveness in managing thrips in protected crops. Orius is widely used as a preventive treatment, especially against Western Flower Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis).
Benefits of Oriline I
- ✅ Targets adult thrips: Orius is the only biocontrol agent that actively kills adult thrips.
- ✅ High kill rate: Capable of killing up to 80 adult thrips per day while feeding on only a few.
- ✅ Strong establishment: Performs well on pollen-rich crops and benefits from supplemental Ephestia eggs (Bug Food E).
- ✅ Broad-spectrum predator: In addition to thrips, Orius also feeds on mites, moth eggs, and other pests; all five nymph stages are predatory, and adults can fly.
Main Uses
Oriline is used for the control of Western Flower Thrips, Onion Thrips, other thrips species, moth eggs, and Two-Spotted Spider Mites (TSSM).
How It Works
All mobile stages of Orius are aggressive predators and will attack all developmental stages of thrips, including adults. Orius establishes effectively in flowering crops like peppers, feeding on both thrips and pollen. It is often used in an integrated program alongside predatory mites such as Amblyseius cucumeris or Amblyseius swirskii. While the mites target young thrips larvae, Orius complements them by preying on both juvenile and adult thrips. Full establishment of the Orius population typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.
