Biological solution for spider mite management
PHYTOcontrol contains the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis, widely used for controlling spider mites in greenhouse crops. These mites rely on scent and touch to find their prey, even though they are blind. The carrier material can be applied directly to crop leaves, where the mites begin hunting spider mites immediately. Their diet consists exclusively of spider mites, and they may resort to cannibalism when prey is scarce. An adult can consume up to five adult spider mites or 20 spider mite eggs or larvae daily.
Benefits of Phytoseiulus persimilis :
- ✅ Effective predator: Actively hunts and consumes all life stages of spider mites.
- ✅ Exclusive diet: Feeds only on spider mites, helping maintain beneficial balance in the crop.
- ✅ Easy application: Clean and simple to release using the included carrier material or intro box.
- ✅ Versatile use: Suitable for deployment in a wide range of crops under greenhouse conditions.
Main uses
Control of spider mite infestations in greenhouse and field crops, with effectiveness across a range of crop types.
How it works
PHYTOcontrol includes a high proportion of female mites, supporting rapid population growth near infestations. Fertilized females lay eggs close to spider mite colonies. Under optimal conditions (15–30 °C), the Phytoseiulus population can expand faster than that of spider mites. This targeted approach helps reduce pest pressure effectively while supporting integrated pest management strategies.
Usage instructions
Keep the product cool (8–10 °C) before use. Allow the mites to acclimatize to greenhouse temperatures prior to application. Shake the bottle gently and keep it horizontal for even distribution. Release by placing small piles of carrier material on crop leaves or by using the intro box. Ensure uniform distribution throughout the greenhouse. Maintain at least 65% relative humidity for best results, as warm, dry conditions can reduce mite survival and effectiveness.
