Preventive control with Hypoaspis miles

Hypoline is a biological control agent containing the soil-dwelling predatory mite Hypoaspis miles (also known as Stratiolaelaps scimitus). It targets fungus gnat larvae, shorefly larvae, and thrips pupae in the growing media of covered crops.

Benefits of Hypoline :

  • Targets multiple soil pests: Attacks fungus gnats, shoreflies, and thrips pupae in the substrate.
  • Moisture tolerant: Performs well under varying soil moisture conditions.
  • Long-lasting: Survives up to 70 days without food in the growing environment.

Main uses

Fungus gnats, Shoreflies & Thrips pupae.

How it works

Hypoaspis miles is typically found in the top half inch of soil, growing media, or surface debris. Females lay eggs that hatch after six days at 20°C (68°F), producing larvae that actively feed for around 10 days and continue feeding into adulthood. When food is available, adult mites can live for several months and prey on a broad range of pests found in the growing medium. These mites are highly mobile and able to locate moisture and nutrients needed for their development. They can tolerate dry conditions and continue functioning during periods of low soil moisture. Hypoline mites feed on fungus gnat larvae and also consume thrips larvae and pupae that drop into the substrate, making them an excellent complement to other thrips biological control strategies.
