tomato hooks in greenhouse

Tomato hooks play a significant role in greenhouse crop rotation. Across various vegetable crops, these hooks are important in lifting the crop to an optimal working height and the process of securing young plants. Tomato hooks are available in various sizes and are compatible with different twine options. Our specialists will guide you in selecting the appropriate tomato hooks paired with the right twine for your greenhouse cultivation needs.

Types of Tomato Hooks

In this video, Crop Rotation specialist Martin Meuldijk, explains the differnces among various types of tomato hooks: the Valent V-hook, Valent O-hook, Valent HD-hook, and the Easy Hook. The importance of selecting the right tomato hook tailored to your crop is crucial. These galvanized steel hooks are important in high wire cultivation systems, catering to crops like tomatoes, and cucumbers.

Valent V-hook

Made from galvanized steel, the Valent V-Hook is has two twine compartments. The first twine storage sits atop the tomato hook, while the second twine storage allows for customizable length, secured by a rubber band. As the hook is suspended, the slackening of the rubber band prompts the twine's descent. This controlled descent is calibrated with a precision of 5 cm. Diverse hook sizes are available, each accompanied by twine offerings varying in thickness, colour, and strength.

Valent O-hook

Similarly featuring two twine compartments with adjustable free fall, the Valent O-Hook employs a distinct mechanism. The twine is looped in an "O" configuration through the twine storage. When hanging the hook, a single fluid motion releases the O-wrapped twine allowing it to descend. This controlled fall, like its V-Hook counterpart, is measured precisely with an accuracy of 5 cm.

Easy Hook: Tomato Hooks with Twine

The Easy Hook is a tomato high wire hook with by a bundled twine configuration, reminiscent of a ponytail. These tomato hooks with twine are available with or without a free fall functionality. Constructed from galvanized steel, the Easy Hook boasts a robust metal design that can provide support for a lot crops, while avoiding any bending. These metal hooks have exceptional efficacy within greenhouse environments, especially for cultivating vegetable crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers.

Valent HD-Hook

The Valent HD-Hook, designed for tomato plants, incorporates a single twine storage. Unlike its counterparts, these tomato hooks with twine lack a free fall feature. These high wire hooks are suspended amidst other hooks, positioned before an additional stem. The twine length to the extra stem is deliberately limited. The entire twine is wound around the hook and necessitates manual unwinding to achieve the desired twine length.

Sizes of High Wire Hooks

Royal Brinkman offers the Valent High Wire Tomato Hooks in two distinct sizes:

The 180 mm version is ideal in relatively low greenhouses or with slow-growing crops.
The 220 mm version is suited for taller greenhouses, cucumbers, and other rapidly growing crops.

Measuring Free Fall

If you need tomato high wire hooks with free fall, you can determine what the length of the bundle and what the length of the free fall needs to be. The free fall of a tomato hook is measured for all types and sizes from the top of the hook.
