Preventive control with Hypoaspis miles
Hypoline is a biological control agent containing the soil-dwelling predatory mite Hypoaspis miles (also known as Stratiolaelaps scimitus). It targets fungus gnat larvae, shorefly larvae, and thrips pupae in the growing media.
Benefits of Hypoline
- ✅Effective in the soil: Attacks fungus gnat larvae, shoreflies, and thrips pupae in the growing media.
- ✅Moisture tolerant: Performs well under variable soil moisture conditions.
- ✅Long-lasting activity: Survives up to 70 days without food.
Main uses
Fungus gnats, Shoreflies & Thrips pupae.
How it works
Hypoaspis miles mites are typically found in the top half inch of soil, growing media, or surface debris. Females lay eggs that hatch after six days at 20°C (68°F). The larvae actively feed for about 10 days and continue feeding as adults. When food is readily available, adult mites can live for several months and prey on a wide range of soil-dwelling pests. These mites are mobile and capable of locating moisture and nutrition needed for development. They tolerate periods of low soil moisture. Hypoaspis miles preys on fungus gnat larvae and also consumes thrips larvae and pupae that fall into the growing medium, making Hypoline a valuable addition to any thrips biological control program.
