Swirski Mites Canada

SWIRScontrol uses the predatory mite Amblyseius swirskii, which targets whiteflies, thrip larvae, and spider mites. It also feeds on pollen and plant saps, making it adaptable in greenhouses. Native to the Mediterranean, A. swirskii thrives in hot, humid conditions. This mite closely resembles A. cucumeris and A. californicus and doesn’t enter diapause, though it’s less active in winter. Optimal growth occurs between 25°C and 28°C, with activity possible up to 40°C. Its life cycle lasts five to six days, with females laying about two eggs daily. Below 15°C, reproduction slows significantly.

AgroBio SWIRScontrol performs best with POWER-MITEcontrol food, which boosts reproduction and establishment in crops.

Advantages of Swirski Mites

  • ✅ Eats both thrips and whitefly.
  • ✅ Offers great control in warm, humid conditions and remains active at temperatures of 40C.
  • ✅ Excellent preventative control.

Packaging Options for Swirksi Mites

Amblyseius swirskii is available in loose form, with options for 25,000 (1 litre) or 125,000 (5 litre) predatory mites. Thanks to the formulation of the carrier material, it can be distributed by hand, blown over crops, or applied using a bio-spreader. SWIRScontrol is also offered in the following formats:

  • •  250 sachets with a hook (Minimum release of 250 predatory mites per sachet).
  • •  250 sachets with a hook TURBO (Minimum release of 250 predatory mites per sachet).
  • •  500 sachets without a hook (Minimum release of 250 predatory mites per sachet).

Usage tips for Swirksi Mites

  • •  Keep the product cool before use.
  • •  Allow the product to slowly reach greenhouse temperature. Avoid rapid warming, as this could shock the predatory mites. Keep the product lying flat and shield it from direct sunlight.
  • •  Just before applying, gently mix the product. You can do this by slowly rotating the bag or by emptying the contents into a large bucket (greater than 5 litres) and stirring the material. This ensures an even distribution of mites both in the product and later in your crop (so continue mixing during application).
  • •  Distribute the material in small amounts over your plants, or use a mechanical spreading system if preferred. Be careful not to let the product come into contact with heating or CO2 pipes. Application rates will depend on the level of pest infestation in your crop, so it’s recommended to consult a specialist for precise dosage guidelines.
